The Skinny on Hungry

by Allison Horton on

"My mouth could make large pizzas disappear without anyone knowing how I did it. Of course, all this eating had an unintended effect: I got fat. Really fat."

Who knew weight loss could be so funny? I’ve jumped into and can’t put down Hungry: Lessons Learned on the Journey from Fat to Thin by Allen Zadoff. Just as the cheeky cover would indicate, Zadoff injects humor and humorous self-deprecation into his weight loss story, along with strategies, advice, and inspiration. From Hungry: “At 350 pounds…it became clear that what had started as a little weight problem was destroying his life. Desperate to find a new way of living that would carry him into thin and beyond, Zadoff began to focus less on what he ate, and more on the physical and emotional underpinnings of what he came to understand as a disease. The pounds melted away, and so began the adventure of a lifetime.” While “Calvin Klein did not call with a modeling contract,” Zadoff said his life could finally begin.
