From Underground to eBook

by Allison Horton on

Billy Balsam is the "underground Christmas classic" tale that has been passed from family to family and told each Christmas for the last 50 years. This year, thanks to the efforts of William J. Schneider and our VookMakers, the tale can digitally reach millions with the release of Billy Balsam's own eBook on Vook's store. Billy, a little but heroic balsam tree growing up in the forests of the North woods, dreams of one day being chosen for the famous annual Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree. Billy's adventures, his courage, and the surprise ending will delight children and adults alike.

Billy's latest adventure, says the author, is this first ever eBook edition. Written in 1958 aboard a steamship by William J. Schneider, Billy Balsam has established itself as an institution among families and communities in the tri-state area. While numerous celebrities and news personalities have read the story on local radio over the years, the story never made it to publication. Thankfully, William came to Vook and we were able to quickly release his story well before the holidays. The eBook includes charming illustrations and copies of handwritten notes from fans (including Barbara Bush and Kathie Lee Gifford).

Billy Balsam is available for online reading or download to the eReader of your choice on Vook's store.
